The 'Best' Time

Well it's September, and the aurora seemed to know it. Through years of data collection, September has become known as 'the best time to see the aurora' in Yellowknife.
Of course the sun doesn't care that we have just flipped a piece of paper to a new month with 30 boxes on it, neither do the jet streams responsible for our weather well below what's happening somewhere a few hundred kilometres above us. But last night wouldn't let you know it wasn't the case.
