Sirius Delusion

We rounded a corner about 120 kilometres from Yellowknife there it was on the horizon - Sirius - the brightest star in the sky, looking nothing like the brightest star in the sky. In fact, it was reasonably argued to be nothing more than a dash light somehow reflecting through the windscreen. But another 20 kilometres and Sirius quickly did become the brightest star of the many around us, and all we know is that on these nights, you find one star and follow it to the end of the earth.
