Snowstorms, Windstorms, and Substorms

"It's not as bad as it looks and as bad as you're probably thinking, and you're probably not going to believe me and that's okay, but I think we will be fine tonight."

We went as far into the snowstorm as we could, as infrastructure would allow us, and we waited it out. Sitting on a frozen lake, the car rocked a little in the wind, small breaks in the clouds came and went, and a little after midnight, ahead of the weather models, clear skies arrived. Everything that followed until a little after 3am was completely perfect.
